FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - As many area businesses look to reduce costs, the city of Fort Wayne has recruited a number of them to become "green businesses."

Today was the launch date for the program, which encourages companies to track their energy use and make improvements that can save them money.

Companies ranging from General Motors to Citilink were represented, and many of the changes available to them will cost little or nothing to implement.

City of Fort Wayne PIO Wendy Barrott says, ”They’re going to save the biggest money by practicing the energy efficiency and tracking and making some improvements to their facilities. All buildings in the United States can save between 10- 40 percent of their energy just by making operational changes.”

Another of the program's goals is to educate local businesses about the grants and tax credits available to them for implementing some energy-efficient changes.
