Northeastern REMC Awards Green Grant Money

By Scott Sarvay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Protecting the environment and investing in green technologies was the focus of two grants awarded by Northeastern REMC this week.

Today, company officials donated nearly $3,300 to the Little River Wetlands Project.

That money will be used for GPS software to map boundaries and plant species locations while helping in environmental education efforts.

Gene Donaghy with Northeastern REMC says, “The funds that were presented today are part of the Envirwatts Program. Members that chose to have part of their electric usage credited back to their green sources can pay an additional fee each month to have those funds go into educational and projects in the area for environmental purposes.”

Yesterday, Northeastern REMC donated $3,500 to the Northeast Indiana Green Build Coalition.
