Marietta Drucker is a survivor... 60 years ago she lived through the Holocaust.

Four years ago she was handed a potentially fatal diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

"We were all absolutely scared to death at that point," she recalls.

Her daughters were scared for their mother's health... and their own after they learned they were all carriers of the BRCA-one gene. It put them at a 60-percent chance of getting ovarian cancer... and an 85-percent chace of getting breast cancer.

"I always used to tell my girls how proud I was I gave them such good genes, and here... I discovered I gave them very bad genes," Marietta says.

Their fears were affirmed. Debbie - the picture of health - was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"No matter what I did, it was that gene that was going to make sure I got breast cancer. So, I mean, they say an 85-percent chance... it was 100-percent," Debbie says.

That's when the other daughter, Judy, who was perfectly healthy at the time, decided to take the radical step of having her ovaries removed and a double mastectomy. Her doctors told her it wasn't a matter of if she would get cancer, but when.

"It was a horrible decision to have to make," Judy says. "I didn't want to do it. But for me personally, it was a no-brainer."

Doctor Sofia Merajver says it's much more than just getting a blood test and going through surgery. Women need to be counseled on their options.

"Knowledge is power, but that's cliche. How you make it power is by taking one individual at a time and helping them find their own power," she says.

Judy and Debbie found theirs... The three woman live in the moment... but feel blessed they can stay one step ahead of their fate.
