KATHERINE BENNEFELD IS USED TO BEING IN CONTROL. AT 90 YEARS OF AGE SHE MAKES AND SELLS BEAUTIFULL DOLL CLOTHES. SHE'S A RETIRED SECRETARY, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND GREAT GRANDMOTHER MANY TIMES OVER. BUT WHEN KATHERINE BEGAN TO LOSE HER HEARING, STAYING IN TOUCH WITH FAMILY MEMBERS. WHO ARE SPREAD ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BECAME IMPOSSIBLE BY TELEPHONE, SHE SIMPLY COULDN'T HEAR THEM. THIS CHRISTMAS THE FAMILY CHIPPED IN AND BOUGHT GRANDMA A LAPTOP.
Katherine: Come on baby. Today's technology is just beyond anything I can even begin to understand.
SHE MAY NOT UNDERSTAND IT BUT SINCE CHRISTMAS KATHERINE'S BECOME AN ACCOMPLISHED EMAILER, TALKING WITH GRANDKIDS IN INDIANAPOLIS, GREAT GRAND KIDS IN FLORIDA. HER FIRST MESSAGE TODAY IS FROM GRANDAUGHTER LISA IN INDY.
Katherine: She says 'well it's been awhile so I thought I'd write to say hello. I'm so glad you had such a nice Christmas and are enjoying your laptop. I'm ready to reply.
THE NEW LAPTOP HAS OPENED THE WORLD BACK UP FOR KATHERINE, PUTTING HER BACK IN TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE SHE LOVES, AND, JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, BRINGING HER BACK INTO THEIR LIVES.
Katherine: I said the news people are here and my fingers are all thumbs, can't even think, have to let you hear about it later. Love, granny. It's fun, it's exciting to learn something new at my age. But you have to wonder, what in the world the next ten years can dream up.
WE CERTAINLY DON'T KNOW, BUT WE EXPECT WHATEVER THE FUTURE DREAMS UP, GREAT GRANDMA KATHERINE BENNEFELD WILL BE READY FOR IT.
