FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A foot chase during a traffic stop Saturday night leads to police shooting a man near South Hanna & East Leith Streets.

Police say an on officer pulled over a moped at that corner, when the man on the moped fled by foot. Police chased Micquail Thomas, 18, and the pursuit ended with police shooting him.

Paramedics assisted Thomas in the Hanna & Leith area; he was sent to a hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound.

The officer involved in the shooting, Anthony Shefferly, has been placed on administrative leave.

Police did not say why Thomas was shot during the chase, or why an officer pulled him over.

A gun was also recovered in the area of the shooting, police say.
