MENDON, Ohio (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Mercer County toddler drowned Friday night after falling into a pool in the backyard.
Emergency crews found Evan Quinn, 20 months, of Mendon, around 9 p.m. at the bottom of the family pool in the 300 block of S. Washington St.
He was pulled from the water and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mercer County Sheriff's Department say Evan's parents, Karen and James Quinn, were watching Evan play near the above-ground pool in the backyard. Police say the parents briefly took their attention away from Evan. Shortly thereafter, police say the parents noticed the child missing.
After 10 to 15 minutes of searching, the family called 911.
Police searched the area, eventually finding the child's body underwater. Police say visibility into the water was poor, making the search more difficult.
The sheriff's department is still investigating the drowning, but believe it was an accident.
