State Senator Proposes Reduced Marijuana Penalties

INDIANAPOLIS (www.incnow.tv) - The General Assembly could soon take up legislation that would reduce penalties for pot possesion in Indiana.

State Sen. Karen Tallian, D-Portage, proposed a bill that includes reducing possessing marijuana in amounts less than 2 oz. to merely a fine.

Other provisions would reduce penalties for distribution of marijuana, and possesion of metabolites while driving.

The bill would also eliminate an hemp production tax of $3.50 per gram, making it cheaper to produce pot in Indiana.

This is the third time Tallian has filed legislation to partially decriminalize marijuana. Two prior attempts have been unsuccessful; and, so far, this bill has not been assigned to any hearings.
