FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Christians around the world will complete their Lenten observance this week by celebrating Holy Week.
Congregations of various faiths are holding Palm Sunday, or Passion Sunday, services. The final Sunday before Easter commemorates the biblical crowds welcoming Jesus with palm branches into Jerusalem just before His crucifixion.
Pope Francis celebrated Mass before thousands at St. Peter's Square.
"We follow Jesus," Pope Francis told the faithful gathered outside the Vatican. "Above all, we know that He accompanies us and carries us on His shoulders."
Locally, Bishop Kevin Rhoades started Holy Week at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He will have a busy Holy Week schedule that includes services in Fort Wayne and South Bend.
Christians will remember Jesus' death on Friday--Good Friday--and resurrection on Easter next Sunday.
