FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Gov. Mike Pence, R-Ind. weighed in Thursday on the ISTEP+ controversy during a visit to Fort Wayne.

He sat down with Jeff Neumeyer for a wide-ranging one-on-one interview.

Among the topics discussed, his decision not to expand Medicaid eligibility to uninsured Hoosiers, differences of opinion he has had with state lawmakers from his own party, as well as ISTEP.

Pence came to town to celebrate job creation.

He helped cut the ribbon on a new home for Brunswick Corporation, which is moving to a Hadley Road facility and is adding 200 jobs by 2016.

Earlier, we sat down for our interview.

We spoke of problems with ISTEP testing that frustrated everybody involved in the process.

Pence is not sure he agrees with state school superintendent Glenda Ritz, who favors minimizing the importance of the test in determining teacher salaries.

But he does support her commitment to a full investigation of whether interruptions experienced by students should invalidate ISTEP test scores.

" We've just got to make sure that the results of these tests are accurate, and that Hoosier children and schools are not disadvantaged because of difficulties we had with the administration of the exam, " said Pence.

We also asked him about why he's choosing not to expand Medicaid eligibility to uninsured Hoosiers.

Several other Republican governors have changed their position on this issue, and have gone along with President Obama's offer to pick up the tab and cover people from their respective states for three years, free of charge.

Pence said the Medicaid system in Washington is broken, and that it's not in the best interest
