MONTGOMERY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - An Indiana State Trooper was wounded and a suspect killed in a shootout Monday afternoon in Daviess County, Ind.
Around 1:30, Trooper Jarrod Lents was called to a an armed robbery at a Montgomery, Ind., gun shop, state police say.
During the robbery response, state police say Trooper Lents and the robbery suspect, James Jones, 60, of Shoals, Ind. exchanged fire.
Trooper Lents was shot multiple times and wounded. He was flown to an Evansville hospital, and was later released.
Jones was shot and killed by Trooper Lents during the shootout.
Gov. Mike Pence, R-Ind., issued a statement shortly after the shooting, thanking Lents for his service and offering prayers for the trooper.
"I am reminded of the risks those who wear the uniform take every day," Pence said. "And of their courageous service to the people of Indiana."
Trooper Lents is a nine-year veteran of the Indiana State Police.
