Disgraced Celina Police Chief Appeals Firing

CELINA, Ohio (www.incnow.tv) - Celina Police Department's fired police chief appeals his termination.

David Slusser was notified June 14 that he was terminated amid allegations of misconduct as chief.

The offenses include improper processing of evidence and altering employees' timesheets.

"These are not viable charges. Period," Gregory Wilson, Slusser's attorney, says at a Friday press conference to announce the appeal.

Slusser waived his rights to a June 13 hearing. Mayor Jeffrey Hazel, R-Celina, and Celina Safety-Service Director Thomas Hitchcock viewed Slusser' choice to waive his hearing as an admission of guilt, and fired Slusser effective June 15.

"In the last 11 years, did you make mistakes at work?" Slusser rhetorically asked reporters. "How would you feel if somebody went to your work place and dug up everything you did wrong for the last 11 years?"

Celina's Civil Service Commission will hear the appeal. A hearing is expected to be scheduled within the next month.

Slusser is confident he will be reinstated as Celina police chief.
