HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A historic Blackford County was destroyed by fire Thursday morning

Around 4:30 a.m., a passer by reported the fire at the AmVets Post No. 23, 902 S. Walnut St. in Hartford City.

Hartford City Fire Department arrived within minutes, and battled the fire for most of the morning.

The post is considered a total loss, The Hartford City News-Times reports.

AmVets is a veterans organization started following World War II. Post No. 23 in Hartford City started in 1951, the newspaper says. A year and a half later, the group bought the building.

Members of the post planned to meet Wednesday night to discuss the future of the post.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
