BREA, Calif. (21Alive) - Suzuki Motors of America has recalled some vehicles over airbag concerns.

The recall is for 2006-2011 Suzuki Grand Vitaras and 2007-2011 Suzuki SX4 over potential failure of front passenger seat airbag sensors mats, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says. The recall affects nearly 194,000 vehicles.

The sensors weigh the person in the passenger seat, and determines whether the passenger is either an adult or child and should be deployed.

Over time, the sensors may stop working from repeated flexing of the mats, causing the airbag to deploy automatically in a crash.

Airbag deployment to a child in a front passenger seat increases injury risk, the NHTSA says.

Suzuki will send formal notices of the recall to affected owners in October, and will send a second letter notifying owners that parts are available to repair their cars.
