FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Two apartments were heavily damaged Friday night in a fire at the Pointe Inverness complex.

Around 8:30, the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to one of the apartment buildings in 7000 block of Pointe Inverness Way.

A man who lives on the lower-level apartment says he noticed fire in the apartment above his, and called 911.

He says he was unsure what started the fire. Fire investigators have not determined a cause, either.

No one was in either the upper or lower apartment, fire officials say. Other tenants in the building were safely evacuated.

The fire was under control in 40 minutes, fire officials report.

Eight apartments were affected by the fire, and 17 people were displaced, according to the FWFD. Management were making arrangements for those tenants.
