February 25, 2014 Updated Feb 25, 2014 at 6:45 PM EDT

INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) - Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman in relation to a murder investigation.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released on Tuesday a photograph of a woman taken at an Indianapolis area mall between 1975 and 1984.

The FBI and IMPD did not specify why they are looking for her, other than she "may have been related to or a friend of" John Davis Smith, a convicted murderer.

Anyone who may have information is aksed to call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Missing Persons Unit at (317) 327-6160 or email MissingPersons@indy.gov.
