FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Local movies theaters say they take necessary security measures to ensure patron safety when going to see a movie.
At Rave Motion Pictures at Jefferson Pointe, the Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” is being shown around the clock to satisfy the high demand for moviegoers to see the third installment of the most recent string of Batman movies.
In all, the Rave will have 23 showings of “The Dark Knight Rises” on Friday. Four of those showings are in the IMAX theater.
Katrina Newman, Jefferson Pointe marketing manager, says the mall and movie theater work together to ensure customer safety throughout the shopping facility.
“We take every measure possible. We hire security. We have security for the property. For Rave, in this instance, we also have Indiana State Police here and inside the Rave, we also have the county [police].”
Newman says typical disturbances in the theater usually involve patrons refusing to turn off their cell phones or patrons who are talking on them during a movie. Newman says that Jefferson Pointe officials will meet to review their own policies to make sure the tragedy seen in Aurora, Colorado does not take place in Fort Wayne.
“We also take a look at the measures we have in place. Is it good enough? Is it—and I honestly think it is. We have excellent measures. We hire in extra security for our shoppers.”
Danny DiGiacomo, the director of marketing for Rave Cinemas, released the following statement about security measures at their theaters:
“We are incredibly saddened by the shooting in Colorado. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy. We take security very seriously and will continue to make every effort to ensure that our moviegoers are safe when they visit our theaters.”
Indiana’s NewsCenter has also placed calls to Carmike Cinemas and Regal Coldwater Crossing. Indiana’s NewsCenter is expecting statements about the cinemas’ security measures Friday afternoon.
