FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – After 1,500 people applied for 80 Fort Wayne jobs Tuesday, some job seekers are concerned about the opportunity to apply Wednesday.

Courtyard by Marriott officials say only 350 people trickled into the Grand Wayne Center for Wednesday’s job fair; painting a very different picture from Tuesday’s lines that wrapped around the building.

Hotel and its sport's bar representatives are looking to hire housekeepers, waiters, desk attendants and others.

Marriott representatives say they haven't filled any of the positions yet, so you can still apply.

“The majority of the people that are coming in right now are not currently employed but do have some work history in their background, a lot in customer service, which is great,” Cara Dougherty, Talent Acquisition Manager with Marriott’s parent company, White Lodging, said. “We haven't seen a whole lot of hospitality or hotel specific experience, which is what we're looking for. We are hoping to find more of those in the next couple of days.”

Dougherty says they will accept applications from those who have not worked in a hotel.

You can apply Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Grand Wayne Center.

If you're not one of the lucky few who earn a position at the Marriott employment service officials say don't give up.

Manpower representative say more local companies are looking for help.

“We're finding business picking up in durable and non-durable goods,” Manpower Area Manager Joel Daas said. “We're mainly industrial here. We have really industrial and manufacturing. And we're finding that across all sectors. You've got the food industry, you've manufacturing, and you’ve even got automotive picking up substantially. We've seen an increase of about 25 to 30 percent of our traffic flow-of people coming into the office seeking jobs. We've seen about the same increase 30 to 35 percent in positions opened and that we were able to fill with the right person with the right skills at the right time.”
