Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – A happy ending for a pit bull mix found to be extremely emaciated.
When Animal Care and Control officers found Molly she only weighed 17 pounds at nine-months-old.
Since being found she has been nursed back to health, and has been adopted by Animal Care and Control Officer Jason Miller.
The dog’s previous owner, 23-year-old Reginald Culpher was recently sentenced to 180-days in jail on an animal cruelty charge.
Fort Wayne man sentenced for keeping his pit bull mix locked up in an abandoned house with little food or water for weeks.
23-year-old Reginald Culpher was sentenced earlier this week to 180 days in jail for animal cruelty.
Dr. Scott Myer of Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency Services examined the dog and found it to weigh only 17.8 pounds at nine months old. Investigating Officer Jason Miller described the dog as being the skinniest dog he had ever seen in his career as an Animal Control Officer.
The temperature inside the home, where water and electricity had been turned off, registered 98°. Culpher admitted he had never taken his dog to a veterinarian.
The dog is recovering and gaining weight under the volunteer care of Officer Miller who has expressed an interest in adopting the dog. Donations to Animal Care & Control’s “Angel Fund” can be made to assist with medical bills of advanced cruelty and neglect cases.
