WASHINGTON, DC, (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The House has voted to extend unemployment benefits but it won't affect millions of laid off workers who will soon lose those weekly paychecks.
Although the measure passed the House on a vote of 269 to 153, 1.3 million unemployed people will still see their benefits disappear because the Senate has already filibustered a similar bill.
And now they have gone on congressional recess for a week.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says, “It's just cruel, and we're not, it cannot stand, and I believe this will be passed when we come back.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid expects to have another vote after a replacement is found for Senator Robert Byrd.
The West Virginia Democrat died on Monday.
