FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- Empty shelves and long lines were common sights yesterday as people from the area stocked up in preparation for today's winter weather.
Area grocery stores saw a large influx of customers as a winter storm loomed over the heads of everyone in the area. Customers stocked up on essentials in case the storm left them unable to leave their homes. On top of the winter storm approaching, the NFL Playoffs began this weekend, sending consumers to the stores to stock up on their favorite football watching foods.
When asked about the influx of customers yesterday, Kroger Marketplace at Coventry Store Director Richard Van Horn said,
"Making sure you have all those key items, that's important for us to make sure we supply those items and have them available. . We're here to support our community and make sure that our customers have those items that they need in case things get really bad and they get snowed in we want to make sure we have those items."
Van Horn also went on to say that stores planned accordingly and had extra supplies brought in specifically to deal with the increased demand this weekend.
