GULF OF MEXICO (Indiana's NewsCenter) - BP says the tightly fitted cap was successful and that oil has stopped flowing into the water. They report at 3:25 Thursday afternoon after engineers gradually dialed down the amount of crude escaping through the last of three valves in the 75-ton cap the massive oil spill came to a halt.
The stoppage came 85 days, 16 hours and 25 minutes after the first report April 20th of an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig that killed 11 workers and triggered the spill.
