MUNCIE, Ind. (NBC33) -- A incoming freshman at Ball State University made a half-court shot that will definitely pay off.

At a freshmen Welcome Week event Thursday night that introduces them to the Ball State athletic experience, an incoming freshman, Markus Burden, was selected to attempt a half-court shot that would earn him free tuition for the spring semester.

Burden made the shot and the arena erupted. A semester of out-of-state tuition is valued at $11,084 and since Burden is from Frankfort, Ill., this shot should really help defray some of the cost of going to college.

Ball State has been sponsoring this contest for the past few years and Burden is the first to win.
