Ball State Police: Campus "All Clear" (VIDEOS & PHOTOS)

MUNCIE, Ind. (21Alive) – Things are returning back to normal at Ball State University after police spent nearly three hours searching for a possible gunman.

It was just before 5 p.m. Friday afternoon when police were called to the University.

University Police spent the evening searching several buildings, focusing mainly on the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Students were asked to stay in a safe and secure location for the duration of the search.

A little before 8 p.m., an "all clear" was issued. Police say no weapon or a gunman was found.

A little before 5 p.m., Ball State police began searching the campus, looking for a possible armed assailant in the area of the Recreation and Wellness Center.

The Ball State Alert twitter account tweeted "Please secure in place on campus and adhere to our active shooter safety guidelines" shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.

Ball State Daily News retweeted a photo by a student of a man being approached by armed police officers. As of 5 p.m. Ball State Alert twitter account was still telling students to secure themselves in a safe location until released by UPD.

According to Ball State Alert on Twitter, an individual in the Rec Center shouted there was a gun and UPD is securing and assessing the situation. As of about 6:25 p.m., Ball State Alert was reporting that most occupants have been cleared from the affected buildings. Residence halls will remain secured until the all clear is sent.
