(Indiana's NewsCenter) - Website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death and has since been confirmed by multiple news sources.

MCA, a.k.a. Adam Yauch, co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock. The trio went on to churn out some of the most iconic albums in hip-hop.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ recalls that the Beastie Boys haven't performed live since the summer 2009 and during one of their last performances at Bonnaroo that June, MCA appeared noticeably less energetic than his group mates.

Yauch was absent at the Beastie Boys' Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in April, but the band's official statement did not reveal why.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.
