FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- The fire that engulfed a liquor store, bar and hair salon in the Marketplace of Canterbury is drawing a lot of attention from passersby and a lot of questions about the future of those businesses.

Smoke and water has damaged Club V, which is one of several bars that makes up Piere's Nightclub. Despite the damage, the nightclub plans to be open Thursday for a concert.

The business that have been demolished after the effects of the fire include the Cap n' Cork, Canterbury Styling Salon and Mitchell's Sports Bar and Grill, which is where preliminary investigations say the fire started.

The owner of Mitchell's heard about the fire through a morning newscast and raced to the complex.

"By the time I got to Reed Road, I could see the flames," commented owner, Todd Smith, to our partner in news, The Journal Gazette.

He told The Journal Gazette that he had been planning to sell the bar in the near future. He also commented about how the timing of this is unfortunate since Stan Liddell, the owner of Piere's and the man he says made Marketplace of Canterbury what it is today, died last month.

"When it rains, it pours," remarked Smith.

Andy Lebamoff, the owner of Cap n' Cork, which has more than a dozen other locations said "We're thankful nobody was hurt. It was a good store and served Canterbury well. Hopefully they'll rebuild and we can get another store there".

Fort Wayne Fire Chief, Amy Biggs, credits the employees of the nursing home and Dunkin' Donuts for calling 911 since having traffic in that area early in the morning is rather unusual.
