FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – The final numbers are in and the 2012 CANstruction event raised 68,033 pounds of food or 85,068 food items.
12 area high schools built beautiful structures at Glenbrook Mall recently comprised of canned goods and other non-perishable food items..
CANstruction is a nationwide initiative to raise hunger awareness. Here in the Northeast Indiana region, Community Harvest Food Bank has created the event so that high schools can participate. The high schools have to collect their own non-perishable items through fundraising efforts and they bring them by the truckload to Glenbrook Mall.
Jane Avery with the food bank says, “This year was so awesome. Even better than the last! These brilliant students amaze me.”
The structures were judged in a variety of categories and the public was invited to cast their votes for the best with cans of food.
