(Indiana's NewsCenter) Mike Caywood on Friday announced his candidacy for 82nd District Representative.
According to an announcement from Caywood:
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the position of Indiana State Representative for the 82nd District. I am entering this race in order to provide the residents of the 82nd District with the opportunity to send a true representative of the people to Indianapolis rather than another politician. I have not previously been involved in the political arena in any way other than to vote in primary and general elections. I have neither powerful long-term politicians nor big money at my side. I believe that, for this reason, I will be able to more fully represent the true interests of the constituents. I will not have to answer to the demands of the party line or the big money of financial supporters.
I am currently an elementary principal in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. I have been with FWCS for almost 40 years, with over 29 years in my current building. I have been married for almost 46 years and have four children, all college graduates, and four grandchildren. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served one year in Vietnam. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of Merry Lea Environmental Education Center, Wolf Lake, IN; The Fort Wayne Zoological Society; and the Indiana Association of School Principals. I have attached my resume for a more complete list of my education, background, and affiliations.
There are several areas of concern for the citizens of the 82nd District and Indiana:
• More equitable funding for schools, especially for those schools with very specific needs such as a high rate of free/reduced lunches and/or a large ELL population.
• High unemployment rates – there is a need for more jobs, especially those that pay a wage that will allow a family to survive.
• Reducing the abundance of meth labs in rural areas
• Assure a high quality of life for all citizens.
