BUTLER, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A young boy is fighting for his life after a fire engulfed his Butler home while his family slept.

When fire crews arrived around 1:30 Monday morning, they found a Butler police officer already on the scene. The officer was able to pull an 11-year-old boy from the home along with the help of some other adults.

The boy was treated at the scene and immediately flown to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition,

A girl was able to escape a 2nd story room and 2 other adults also made it out.

Fire officials tell us the home was already fully engulfed when they arrived and they focused on the boy.

While the investigation is not over, officials believe a space heater may have caused the fire.
