FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- The new way of mass communication.

Social media is playing a big role in getting severe weather information relayed to the public.

Wednesday night, important road closure and flooding information was not relayed to the public, leaving some to question the Mayor's office.

This, after tax dollars were used to pay a consultant more than $70,000 just months ago to help with their social media efforts.

“First and foremost we have to make sure our citizens are safe,” says Mayor Henry. “So rather than spend a lot of time creating information on Facebook and so on. First and foremost we had to get out to the neighborhoods were severely flooded and make sure our citizens were safe.”

Mayor Henry said his office is still learning how to better utilize social media sites in order to reach as many citizens as possible.
