FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Starting Friday, you can apply for a tree that the Parks Department will plant on the right-of-way next to your property.
This is the 15th year for the citizen-match street tree program.
For every $75 you or your neighborhood decides to spend, the parks department will match it.
You can choose from a variety of trees that will grow eight to 14-feet tall.
And this could be a good way to replace an Ash Tree that the city has to take down because of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation.
Parks Director Al Moll says, “We've got a plan going out now that as we identify trees, they'll be coming out and we'll be replacing those on a regular basis. But that's going to take five to ten years. If you want an immediate replacement and you have an Ash Tree coming out, yes, this will take care of it."
To get an application for a matching tree grant, call the Fort Wayne Parks Department at 427-6400.
