Confusion About Obamacare Leaves Some Vulnerable To Scammers

UNITED STATES (www.incnow.tv) – A poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation revealed that more than 40 percent of Americans know little about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), and when people are in the dark about something they leave themselves open to scammers.

A recent report from a Kansas newspaper warns the public of fraudulent insurance companies who may be trying to steal money or identities by saying they are helping people obtain Obamacare information.

These scammers are targeting older generations who are on Medicare and claim that they will need a new Medicare card under the Affordable Care Act. They then ask for personal information like identifications numbers, social security numbers and date-of-birth among other details.

The report advises readers that the program begins in Jan. 2014, that there is no enrollment for the new online marketplace health insurance exchange until Oct. 1 and that there is no national insurance card.

If someone is unsure about an offer, whether from someone at their door, a mailer or through email, they should take the time to stop and investigate before giving out information.

The Indiana Department of Insurance should also be able to shed light on the particulars surrounding the Affordable Care Act and what information will be gathered and from who and how. The main telephone number is 317-232-2385.
