HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) – A former Huntington North High School teacher and cross country coach accused of sexual battery and battery, pleaded guilty to those charges Monday.

Donald Cotton, 68, admitted in Huntington County Circuit Court Monday to three counts: one sexual battery, a class D felony, and two counts of battery, class B felonies.

Cotton was charged by the Huntington County Prosecutor in Nov. 2013.

According to court documents, on Aug. 29, 2013, Cotton met with a woman in his car in the Huntington North High School parking lot. Cotton admits he made sexual advances to her by trying to kiss her and forcing her hand to his private parts.

In the documents, Cotton says, "he knowingly touched a woman with the intent to arouse or satisfy his own sexual desires."

Also according to the documents, between Aug. – Oct. 2005, Cotton made a sexual advance to a female student. During cross country practice, Cotton says the girl stopped to bend over and catch her breath, and he approached her from behind, rubbed her lower back and pressed his privates against her bottom. The female athlete was 16 or 17 years old at the time.

Cotton was coach at the high school for 44 years, and a retired teacher. He was also an adjunct professor at Huntington University.

However, Huntington County Community Schools Corporation ordered a "no trespass" order against Cotton in Sept. 2013, and Cotton resigned from his position at the university shortly after.

According to the court documents, Cotton could face up to a year in jail and fines.
