DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) – A 12-year-old girl was badly injured when the car she was riding in was rear-ended by a man who fell asleep behind the wheel.

Police say Bradley Lowery, 22, of Huntertown, told police he fell asleep at the wheel and did not know what happened.

Police say Lowery was southbound on U.S. 3 approaching State Road 205 in DeKalb County just before noon.

Lowery rear-ended a car stopped at the light, pushing it into a ditch. Police say Hannah Katinsky, a passenger in the vehicle that was hit, suffered skull and leg fractures and a neck injury. She was last listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

The driver of that vehicle, Nola Katinsky, 48, suffered minor injuries.
