HUNTINGTON, Ind. (21Alive) -- An elderly woman is dead after she failed to stop at an exit ramp stop sign and a semi hit her driver's side door.

According to the Allen County Coroner, Barbara Eberhart, 77, of Peru, was exiting the southbound lane of I-69 at exit 386 in a '03 Saturn SL2 and came to a stop behind a box truck. The box truck was stopped at the stop sign of the southbound off ramp at US224. It's believed that the box truck proceeded through the intersection and was getting back onto I-69.

Eberhart followed the box truck and did not yield the right of way and that is when her car was hit by a 2011 Volvo semi tractor trailer, driven by Patrick Myers, 46, of Kankakee, Illinois. The coroner says the semi could not avoid the collision and struck Eberhart's driver's side door.

The Markle Volunteer Fire Department pulled Eberhart from the vehicle and the Huntington County Coroner's office declared her dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

The semi driver was not injured reportedly and alcohol was not suspected to be a factor. It is still under investigation.
