ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Classes won't start in East Allen's district for 2 days, but on Monday, bus drivers received some intense "emergency training".
The drivers were able to experience a hostage situation complete with a SWAT team to help them prepare for such an experience.
The district does the training every few years for training. Drivers feel the hands on experience from the drills help with a wide range of issues ranging from fires to railroad emergencies and will ultimately benefit their students.
EACS School Safety Manager Jeff Studebaker says, “Most of the drivers have said they want to do this to keep our kids safe and that's the goal.”
The district partnered with New Haven Fire and Police Departments, Norfolk Southern and EMS units to stage Monday's training.
