FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The rain that was received on Thursday was welcomed, but certainly not enough to end the area's drought.

However, Indiana is not alone because 60 percent of the nation's lower 48 states are experiencing drought conditions.

The latest update from the national oceanic and atmospheric administration found 53 percent of the country is experiencing moderate or worse drought.

It may not be over for awhile, experts say the widespread drought could continue through October.

In addition, there is a chance of an El Niño pattern, which means excessive heat and dry conditions could persist through the end of the year.
