FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Despite this weeks bank robbery the FBI says there is a downward trend in bank robberies overall.

Officials with the northeast Indiana Federal Bank Robbery Task Force, comprised of local and federal law enforcement, say last year, there was only one bank robbery across 13-northeast Indiana counties.

That's down from 24-robberies and two-attempts in 2003.

They attribute much of that to educating more than 3,000 bank employees about robbery prevention and precautions like cameras and dye-packs which result in higher chances of getting caught.

David Crawford with the Fort Wayne FBI says, “The technological advances that are in place benefit us not only from an identification stand-point, but also from a deterrent stand point."

While bank robberies are down officials say the number of pharmaceutical robberies are up.
