Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – 200 Fort Wayne Community Schools students will be starting the new school year with a new backpack full of new supplies at no cost.
FWCS employees filled 200 backpacks loaded with school supplies this morning at the Grile Administrative Building.
Each backpack contains a package of pencils, rulers, markers, personal hygiene products, a book and a stuffed animal.
This is the 19th year FWCS employees have donated to students. Most of the money raised for the backpacks came from "Casual Friday's". On Friday's, employees can "dress down" for one dollar.
This year FWCS will have 70 percent of students that qualify for free or reduced lunch programs. While many corporations help in the effort to provide for needy families, FWCS officials say "every bit helps".
FWCS educates nearly 31,000 students throughout its 51 schools.
