FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Thousands of Fort Wayne Community students were back in the classroom Tuesday in what could be described as a "dress rehearsal" for the first day of school.
Officials call it a "Transition Day", where sixth graders going into middle school and incoming high school freshmen get a chance to meet their teachers and find their lockers and classrooms.
Turnout was high as students took the opportunity to tour their new schools.
6th Grader, Ciana Cross says, “I'm nervous, I want to figure out my locker and my classrooms.”
“I want to meet people and get along,” said 6th grader Yusuf Abdirahman.
A transition day for new kindergarteners will be held Wednesday.
The first day of school for the Fort Wayne district is next Monday.
