FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne School Board President, Mark GiaQuinta is confident the district's teachers will "come out on top" in the state's new teacher evaluation program.
The system, which links teacher pay to student performance, will be implemented next school year as part of Governor Daniels' education reform agenda.
GiaQuinta realizes many teachers are concerned about the subjectivity involved, but says adjustments will be made based on the difficulty of the task at hand.
GiaQuinta says, “By simply measuring test scores, you don't see the hard work that goes on, with a student who for example doesn't have the English language as their first language. So this will assist in evening the playing field so that we really are beginning to compare apples with apples.”
The Fort Wayne school district was selected among 5 others in the state to pilot the system.
