BAKERSFIELD, Ca. (www.incnow.tv) - An investigation is underway at a California retirement facility after a nurse refused to give a dying patient CPR.

It all unfolded after an elderly woman at the Glenwood Gardens independent living facility collapsed. Despite the dispatchers’ pleas, the nurse on the line refuses to administer CPR. Bakersfield police are now trying to determine if any criminal wrongdoing was committed.

The Glenwood Gardens facility released a statement Monday saying the nurse on the phone was just following the facility’s protocol, which protects them from legal liability. Others say that raises major questions.

The daughter of the woman who dies has said she understands the policy and believes the facility acted appropriately. Experts say, if nothing else, this is a reminder to always look into what services a facility provides.
