Fight Leads To Man's Death; Victim Identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- The Allen County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man that died yesterday following an altercation in the 2000 block of Gladstone Dr.

The man was identified as 45-year-old Darrell King of Fort Wayne. The cause of death was ruled asphyxia due to neck compression and position. The death is being ruled a homicide.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a death that appears to have stemmed from a fight yesterday evening.

Police arrived at a home in the 2000 block of Gladstone Dr. sometime after 5 p.m. Saturday evening in response to a disturbance. Officers located an unconscious male inside the home and medics rushed the man to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating what happened to cause the victims death, but a preliminary investigation indicates that the death was the result of a fight. Police have a person of interest detained but no charges have been filed. Gang activity is not suspected.
