Final Movie for Batman Trilogy Premiers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Thousands of Batman fans will be filling the seats of area movie theatres eager to catch the third and final installment of The Dark Knight trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

The first showing isn't until midnight, but some movie experts are already estimating that opening weekend ticket sales could top $195 million.

Here are some fun facts about the 73-year-old comic phenomenon.

Even the most dedicated fans may be surprised to find out that in the original comic book “Robin” was only slated to be in one issue until popularity demanded more.

Before the caped crusader lived in Gotham city, it was referred to as Metropolis.

In 1950, batman battled doctor doom, which was long before the Fantastic Four.

As for the Christopher Nolan directed Batman movies, Keanu Reeves, Jake Gyllenhall and Joshua Jackson were also up for role of Batman before it went to Christian Bale.

Bale had to gain 100 pounds for the role, but got too big and lost 30.

The bat-mobile, known as the tumbler, inspired a BAE systems prototype for a robotic tank. However, during filming for "Batman Begins," a drunk driver hit the bat-mobile after he panicked thinking it was an alien spacecraft.

Forbes magazine researched exactly how much money it would take to become Batman including the suit, the bat-mobile and other expenses to be about $3.5 million.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, the manager at Rave Motion Pictures said the movie is showing in all 18 theaters and that over 2,000 tickets were sold.
