Van Wert, OH (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -The Middle Point Fire Department in Van Wert County was paid a visit Thursday morning by the Ohio State Fire Marshal not for a reprimand but to give an award.

He handed over a check for more than $7,000 that will help pay for training costs than can be a tremendous burden on small departments.

Ohio State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers says, “We are encouraging firefighter training to higher levels, it makes it safer for the firefighters, and it makes a much better service for the citizens they provide services to."

The Ohio City Volunteer Department also received a check for more than $8,000 to supplement firefighting training expenses.
