FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Wednesday morning's brutal cold sent 10 people to the hospital, as firefighters fought a blaze for more than two hours.
The stubborn house fire broke out around 3:15 Wednesday morning at a home in the 3500 block of South Harrison Street.
With temperatures at (-5) and wind chills at (-20), paramedics stood by to help any firefighters who succumbed to the brutal cold.
People in the home were able to run outside, but they were only in their pajamas; they were treated, as well.
Fort Wayne Fire Department Captain Henry Willis says, “We got here and found heavy flames and smoke. As far as I know, everyone is out of the house. Ten people were taken to the hospital."
Investigators are still looking into how the fire began.
