FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne Parks Department employees are starting to cut down Ash trees, in an effort to eradicate the destructive Emerald Ash Borer.
The city will remove 3,700 trees this year, but only replace about 1,200.
Grant money could help pay to replace another 800 more.
City arborists originally thought they would remove fewer trees than that, but the destruction and decay has progressed faster than they anticipated.
Residents will begin getting notices about trees slated for free removal and-or replacement, soon.
If your ash tree has not been chosen to be replaced, you can pay the city $150 to replace it for you.
