FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Republican candidate for mayor, Paula Hughes, says if elected she would cut the mayor's salary by 31 percent.
Hughes says Mayor Henry has a current salary of more than $124,000 while the governor's salary stands at $95,000.
Hughes is also proposing to cut the deputy mayor's salary saying the current Deputy Mayor, Beth Malloy makes $120,000 compared to the $76,000 salary of the lieutenant governor.
Hughes says, “I don't think it is a matter of our Governor being underpaid, clearly $95,000 was enough to attract a man of caliber for that position. The Mayor of Fort Wayne, certainly while an important position does not require 31% more than the Governor of the entire state.”
Hughes went-on to say she'd require all division directors and department heads to submit a prioritized budget focused on "necessities."
