DETROIT (Indiana's NewsCenter) - GM is officially introducing the Chevy Volt, at one of the auto giant's Detroit-area plants.
The Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that's been in the works for three years.
The CEO of General Motors says the company will be adding 1,000 new jobs in Michigan.
And the second Volt to come off the assembly line will be auctioned off to benefit Detroit's Public Schools. Bids will be accepted at www.bidonthevolt.com until 6 p.m. on Dec. 14. The winning bid will be announced by Chevrolet on Dec. 16. The winner’s Volt will be delivered in December.
For now, the Volt will only be available in seven markets, and it'll hit the showroom soon.
Buyers will be eligible for a tax credit of $7,500.
