WASHINGTON (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The Obama Administration has granted dozens of waivers to companies and insurers to diffuse resistance to the new health care legislation.
The waivers allow insurers to maintain minimal coverage, far below the new law's standards, to prevent health insurers from abandoning markets or dropping out of the business altogether.
A representative from the Department of Health and Human Services, which provided a list of exemptions, says it granted waivers in late September so workers with such plans wouldn't lose coverage from employers who might choose instead to drop health insurance altogether.
McDonalds was one of the 30 companies granted a waiver.
