FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A group of locals has filed a complaint with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights alleging discrimination if Paul Harding High School is to close.
According to our partners in news, the Journal Gazette, the Parents for Quality Education and the Paul Harding High School Parent Teacher Student Association filed the paperwork in late 2010.
The complaint stems from East Allen County Schools’ plan to close Harding School, currently on its fifth year of academic probation, and re-open it as a magnet school in 2012.
Harding parents fear that their students will be sent to hostile environments if the closure is to take place.
Condra Ridley, a spokeswoman for Parents for Quality Education says that the filed complaint is just the beginning and hopes that an investigation will take place and if needed, they’ll file a lawsuit against the district.
Protests are planned at Harding in the next week as students begin to take trips to other high schools for visits.
